Located in the leafy area of Kontokali, Corfu just a few minutes away from the yacht Marina as well as Corfu Town
The scheme accommodates a 4 bedroom house created for a family and their children as well as their much needed external spaces, swimming pool and greenery.
The plot, is filled with cypress trees on its boundaries and having a quite steep inclination. It neighbors with a couple of adjacent houses overlooking the property which proved tricky to solve and turn its disadvantages into advantages.
The architecture concept was to put the external space and pool looking towards the view. That way the house is protected and gains privacy from its volume. The extension of the houses first floor host the master bedroom and all the day spaces which is seamlessly connected to the large external verandas flowing onto the existing landscape. It is becoming one with it and providing additional green space for the family, whilst at the same time, the shape of it proved the project additional private space, away from the overlook of the neighbors.
Due to its steepness, the excavations allowed for a large garage and basement, which is used as a home cinema room, a garage and workshop, storage and gym. In the front of the basement levels, the 3 en suite bedrooms are located, taking advantage of the privacy of the plot and the dense vegetation. Additionally, the swimming pool overlooks the garden area and features a cantilevered glazed front, becoming a feature of the property.
Externally, the steepness is solved by utilizing a series of stepped landscaped patios. Some are treated as soft landscape with trees and others with hard surfaces such as forged concrete, crushed pebbles and tile works.
The boundary of the house in which the pool area is located, is protected by the house volume and by the heightened retaining wall which incorporates a utilitarian role, hosting the main pergola and BBQ area.
The house uses a typical briquette construction with zoelner concrete slabs and a thermal insulation external skin, thus enabling the design to have wider windows in all spaces and a complete lack of concrete columns. This allows the architecture to provide the feeling of a floating slab and an interior space which is blending boundaries with the exterior. As a result it provides a summer atmosphere to the property and allows the occupants to experience the landscape, view and connection to nature all year round in multiple levels.
